HOPI SCHOOL SYSTEM AT A GLANCE
The Hopi School System aims to provide students with an academically challenging, culturally responsive, and comprehensive
education system. The Hopi School System will unify Hopi's Tribally Controlled Schools, and it will be overseen by the Hopi Board of Education (HBE),
a Hopi Tribal Regulated Entity.
The HBE will provide consistency, educational leadership, and
accountability for all seven Hopi Tribally Controlled Schools:

First Mesa Elementary School

After hundreds of hours of consultation with the Transition Team, Principals, and stakeholders over the last year, the HBE is pleased to present the adopted Hopi School System Policies & Procedures Manual. Thank you to all who contributed your expertise, ideas, and time in drafting these policies.

PUBLICATION OF HOPI SCHOOL SYSTEM TRANSITION HANDBOOK
The Handbook provides Hopi school staff and stakeholders with an overview of how the Hopi School System (“HSS”) will be organized and will operate once the HSS P.L. 100-297 grant is approved.
The Transition Handbook also explains all major transition steps from the 2022/2023 to 2023/2024 school years. It covers all major areas of the Hopi School System, for example: curriculum, Hopi language and culture programming, special education, finance, human resources, transportation, facilities, information technology, parent engagement, etc.
This Handbook is a resource for staff and stakeholders to get answers to many of their questions.

CHIEF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR
The Hopi Board of Education is very pleased to introduce the new Chief School Administrator for the Hopi School System, Dr. Rea Goklish, of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. She will be starting in the next month and the exact start date will be announced soon.

PUBLIC NOTICE OF THREE NEW HBE COMMITTEES -- OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS UNTIL FILLED
On June 15 and September 15, 2022, the Hopi Board of Education (HBE) established three HBE Committees required by the Hopi Education Code, section 4.9.D. These Committees will assist in developing the policies and procedures for the unified Hopi School System:
1. Policies and Procedures Committee: To research and lead effort to draft Hopi School System policies and procedures.
2. Evaluations Committee: To assist with the creation of evaluation criteria, procedures, and due process protocols for Hopi School System employees.
3. Curriculum Committee: To assist with the research and selection of the curriculum, academic standards, and assessments for the unified Hopi School System.
The HBE is seeking volunteers for these Committees. You may submit self-nominations or you may nominate someone else. For more information or to submit nominations, email info@hopischoolsystem.org.
